Give Earth An Hour Off

At 8:30 pm on 28 March 2009, around the world, people will turn off their lights in a call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet.

With the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote, Vote Earth is a global call to action for every individual, every business and every community. Whether you believe humans are affecting the climate of the planet or not, your participation will show that you care about how we use the planet resources.

Since my original posting I had the opportunity to read someone elses blog where she expressed her opinion that the lights out campaign is just propoganda. This was my response to her post:
Whether you agree with the climate change debate or not, turning off the lights for just one hour makes a personal statement that you THINK about the use of nature's resources. Joining with others to do this at the same time says that you recognize the power of one voice added to another. And as for sitting THERE in darkness for one hour, may I suggest stargazing (with the lights off, the stars should stand out, or meditating and reflecting, or sharing some tenderness with someone you love. I for one will not feel like a moron while joining with others in giving a small break to our planet. Finally, I hope that everyone takes daily actions to protect our home; if this hour moves a single person to think about his or her personal lifestyle and it's impact on natural resources, then that is a good thing. Peace.
